Coalition of students, activists organize genocide awareness

In an effort to raise awareness of mass violence around the world, a group of students and activists have organized a weeklong series of events focusing on the issue of genocide.

Genocide Awareness Week: A Call to Conscience runs March 12-18, and features programs, speakers, films, discussions and events to examine the scope and operations of group and state-sponsored terror. Programs during the week will address genocidal events in Darfur, Armenia, Guatemala, Rwanda, Yugoslavia, East Timor, Ireland, Cambodia, the USA, Europe and elsewhere.

The event is being coordinated by the Portland Coalition for Genocide Awareness, and sponsored by the Portland State University Progressive Student Union, Oregon Peace Institute and other groups and individuals.
