Air. Sunshine. Water.
Food, clothing, shelter!
These are not luxury items. These are not addendums. They are the things of life. Human beings cannot live without them. There was a time in this country when the undomiciled was not such a common problem. It was not so readily acceptable. Affordable housing was much more common. But during the '80s, it became "hurray for me and screw everyone else."
The rich got richer and the poor got poorer. And such is life, one may say. But why does life have to be so painful for some at the expense of the few? Why is shelter becoming a luxury? After all, it should be a right. People sleeping on the streets is unacceptable in a great society. A society is truly great if it picks up those who have fallen or pulls into the lifeboat those who are drowning.
I say give 'em shelter. It's time to say the poor deserve a right to shelter. It's that simple.
