To the family of Jerry Baum, who donated $500 in his memory to Street Roots. Jerry was a longtime supporter and friend to several of our vendors, who will miss his kindness and generosity. Not long ago, Jerry wrote a letter to the editor of Street Roots, and expressed his compassion for panhandlers and people trying to survive on the streets. He finished his letter with a quote from Bertolt Brecht: "And you, I beg, make not your anger manifest, For all that lives needs help from all the rest."
The story on Jack Tafari (Street Roots, “London Calling,” August 18, 2006) incorrectly said London’s population had gone up 60 percent in the past 10 years. Tafari said that the demand for social housing in London, which has led to overcrowding, has gone up 60 percent in the past 10 years.
