About the Street Roots Speakers Bureau
The Street Roots Speakers Bureau is a group of people who speak about their personal experiences with homelessness and Street Roots’ work in the community. Speakers help educate the public, facilitate conversation, and inspire social action.
Speakers include homeless and formerly homeless vendors, staff, board members and volunteers.
- To share individuals’ personal stories and experiences with homelessness
- To talk about Street Roots and the organization’s work and mission
- To generate income for vendor speakers
- To increase awareness about issues of poverty and homelessness within Portland and Oregon
Who is it for?
The Speakers Bureau is geared towards the general public and/or other groups interested in diving deeper into the issues at hand in Portland. These groups include colleges, businesses, government, faith-based communities and others working to educate themselves on the issues of homelessness and poverty and the work that Street Roots does.
About the session
Each session will be one hour or less with time for a Q&A session.
The presentation includes the following materials for each participant: issues of the Street Roots newspaper, a handout with relevant statistics about Street Roots and/or homelessness, a Rose City Resource Guide, and a question/answer session as well as a history of Street Roots and the speakers sharing their personal experiences.
The Speakers Bureau will offer the history and mission of Street Roots, their personal experience with homelessness and poverty, well as provide firsthand accounts of working with the organization along with the impact Street Roots makes on individuals and in the community.
Each Speakers Bureau engagement costs $50. This fee goes directly to compensate the vendor speaker for their time.
