Development Manager Job Announcement

Street Roots

Street Roots is hiring a Development Manager – you have the opportunity to join a one-of-a-kind Development team!

The Opportunity

Street Roots is seeking an established Development professional to join our Development team. For more than 20 years, Street Roots has been creating income opportunities for individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty by producing a newspaper and other media that are catalysts for change. Our vendors are their own small business owners, buying each paper for $.25 and selling for $1, keeping the profits (plus tips). Our newspaper investigates societal inequity. Our Rose City Resource compiles all the services available to low income and unhoused folks in the metro region into a pocket-sized compendium as well as an online guide. Our Ambassador and MoJo programs help our vendors develop new skills around outreach work and journalism that help them move beyond our programs into long term, housing wage jobs.

You'll manage a Development team of two, alongside a contract grant writer, volunteers and Street Roots' vendors. The Executive and Deputy Directors also support development work. Together, you'll secure a nearly $1.5 million annual budget from a variety of sources, with a particular focus on how to grow the budget annually to support increased programmatic needs.

Overview

Street Roots is seeking a salaried, full-time Development Manager. Duties are split roughly 40/60 between department management, administration and supervision, and direct fundraising. This position will report to the Deputy Director (formerly the organization's Development Director). The main focus of the Development Manager's fundraising will be individual and major donors, recurring donors and events, while this position will also support the Community Partnerships Coordinator with business and corporate contributions and manage a grants team consisting of the themselves, the contract grant writer, the Deputy Director, the Executive Director and various program directors. This position will also work closely with the Board of Directors in their support of organizational fundraising.

Black and Indigenous folks, people of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, people with lived experience of being unhoused, in poverty, or as a member of another vulnerable population, are strongly encouraged to apply.

Pay and Hours

  • 40 hours per week (full-time, exempt)
  • $50,000-$55,000 annual salary (depending on experience)
  • Full medical/dental/vision
  • Generous PTO and sick leave

Primary Duties

  • Manage a staff of two and the Development department as a whole
  • Raise nearly $600,000 from individual, major and recurring donors annually
  • Plan and execute the Annual Breakfast ($100,000 annual budget goal)
  • Manage a grants program with an average goal of $400,000
  • Manage Street Roots' Gratitude Brigade, a group of vendors who also support Development efforts through stewardship, cultivation and solicitations

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years managing a development department/portfolio, with a track record of development success
  • Experience managing successful fundraising events
  • Experience managing major donors
  • Experience managing staff and/or volunteers and interns
  • Experience using Microsoft office suite/Google drive, Salesforce (or similar CRM database), social media channels and mass communication (email) platforms
