On Saturday, Oct. 18, soldiers and their families, Iraqi refugees and Afghan-Americans will gather to talk about the realities of war during Winter Soldier Northwest: Eyewitness Accounts of War. The event is sponsored by PDX Peace coalition and a host of other activist and veterans organizations.
Featured speakers include Camilo Mejia, a National Guard staff sergeant who became the first combat soldier to refuse to go back to Iraq. Journalist Dahr Jamail, a writer for Mother Jones and the Nation, will also be speaking about what he has seen in the wartorn regions.
Panelists will discuss the true costs of war, and what we can do here at home to support our veterans, work in solidarity with the Iraqi and Afghan people and end the war.
