Street Roots
During the 2017 holiday season, Street Roots vendors give thanks for friends and family, opportunities and support
by Street Roots | 21 Dec 2017

William Adams

I’m grateful for Travis and his crew at Grand Central Bakery, Lo and her crew at the Sellwood Starbucks and I want to say thanks for all the dark roast, and Lisa from Chrisman Framing, all the rest of my regular customers, and all the fun conversations about Public Nuisance 45.

The best location is my own church. The people in my church are the most supportive people I’ve ever had in my life except for my parents. I want to thank them profusely. Happy Holidays. I’d like to thank all of my regulars for another great year selling Street Roots. I’m in front of New Seasons in Grant Park and they give me free coffee. Employees come out and buy papers from me anyhow. I have regulars who come in everyday just to have their coffee and breakfast. Then I go over to Hollywood Library and at the Hollywood library I have some of the greatest people that I see all the time.

Dan Newth

I am grateful to Street Roots for providing a vehicle for me to write, connect to community, freedom of expression and ability to meet minimal needs.

Twan

I’m very grateful for being alive.

Rob Thaxton

I’m thankful for all the people that befriended out in front of the store.

Earl Bennett

I’m thankful that I’m still here at Street Roots.

Daniel Cox

I’m grateful for my new place.

Kevin Harrison

I’m grateful for Street Roots, the kindness and generosity of the donors, and the fact that it gives me something positive to do that I enjoy doing. I’m grateful for all of those things. And I’m grateful for my sleeping bag because it’s getting cold at night. I’m grateful for having the tools to survive.

Rebekah LaBar

I am very grateful for Street Roots for having a job so that I can make money and give back to other people. I am grateful to have a family that loves and cares about me.

Leo Rhodes

Things I’m thankful for: Right to Dream Too, Right to Survive, Street Roots, Sisters of the Road, Dignity Village, and Hazelnut Grove. I’m grateful for individuals and groups helping and supporting homeless people (though I wish this could be year-round). As for me, I’m thankful for the V.A. for taking care of my health, the VASH and Homeforward for helping me with my housing.

Aileen McPherson

I am grateful for Street Roots. They gave me a voice, the ability to share a dream, and write from the soul.

Shannan Debus

Woodrow Eagleman

I’m thankful for the opportunity of Street Roots for giving me a job and a place to sit down and rest for a bit before I start my day.

Michelle Hamberg

My son came back after 10 years of not seeing him. I’m going to see him next week. I’m in love. My roommate’s gonna move out, and I’m gonna get my apartment back. I’m thankful for the fact I’m going to be living in a brand-new apartment in March.

Richard Rowe

I’m thankful for being alive and for my God.

Charles McPherson

I’m thankful for every time I don’t get maced while selling at a protest.

Barbra Weber

I’m thankful for my connections with Sisters because I’ve gotten a lot of opportunities through them and a lot of things opened up for me when I met them. They continue to be a very supportive spirit in my life.

I’m grateful for my name change, for my ID change, and for everything that’s going well. Street Roots has been there for me thick and thin.

The most amazing thing is the recuperative care program through Central City Concern. It basically saved my life after my head injury. I was wandering the street with no memory.
