Criteria included originality, visual appeal and ease of interpretation, connection to Portland, and how well the logo reflected the Portland Street Response mission and values. The three winning logos, selected from among 48 submittals, now go to a graphic artist, who will use them to help design the final image.

The PSR mission is to reduce police, fire and emergency medical services interactions with individuals who may be experiencing a mental health crisis or a non-life threatening medical emergency, but haven’t committed a crime.

“People might not have the skills to cope with what’s going on in their life,” said vendor Mark Rodriguez, who helped judge the entries. “It could happen to anybody. And that’s what this is doing; we’re picking up the slack. These are our family, our kids on the street.”
