Episode 5: The Street Roots vendor discusses some of her many endeavors, including earning her degree in addiction counseling
by DeVon Pouncey | 12 May 2020

On Episode 5 of the Street Roots Podcast, Street Roots vendor Annette "Nettie" Johnson joined host DeVon Pouncey to discuss her many endeavors. Johnson recently earned her associate degree in addiction counseling. Unfortunately, her commencement has been suspended.

“I won’t be walking the stage on June 15, 2020," she said. "A lot of my (Street Roots) customers were going to come, and I was going to have my cap and gown, but that got canceled. So hopefully something happens in fall."

Johnson also has her own janitorial business. She cleans the Street Roots office weekly.

“My mom had 11 kids. She was a single parent. She had several janitorial businesses in Seattle. … I got pulled or kicked out of school in eighth grade and I had to work. My mom was big at that, and she taught me how to work to make ends meet,” she said.

Johnson also discusses how she has navigated the COVID-19 pandemic, her relationship with New Seasons Woodstock and more.
